Google’s Street View Trekker has captured more of off-road Hawaii sights with the addition of some of Oahu’s beaches, parks and trails such as Waikiki Beach and the Pali Lookout, which can now be explored virtually in 360-degree panoramic views.
The photos are part of a partnership between Google Maps and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau. The Big Island was the first island to participate. The images for Oahu can be found at here and for Big Island here.
To capture the images, trained teams from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and HVCB go to each site with Google’s Trekker equipment – a 40-pound backpack with Google’s Street View camera that takes 75-megapixel, 360-degree panoramic, high-resolution images with 15 lenses.
The program will expand to the other islands in phases and more content will be added over time.
PBN first reported the partnership last year.
